Teen Truth: Live

Posted by Five Mom, Christy Crandell , on Friday, December 28, 2007

I recently saw a film from two local independent directors here in California that made me think about how our children discuss everyday conflicts. I found the 22-minute documentary to be unique because it is told from the first-hand accounts of students. The filmmakers show the video at events held at middle and high schools, and then invite the audience to discuss the issues they face every day.

The presentation, Teen Truth: Live, provides a forum for students to talk about how they handle peer pressure and make choices. The video, about bullying and violence, was received incredibly well by students and educators, especially because of the open setting of the presentation, which encouraged teens to discuss issues important to them.

I got the opportunity to meet these two filmmakers when they presented their film at the state capitol in Sacramento. Soon, they will be releasing a second film in the series about teenage drug use. I have seen that film as well, and I hope that they bring this new presentation to some local schools.

I will keep you all informed about these young filmmakers, the second movie and any local developments.
