Brandon Preister (2010)

For the grades 7-8 Difference Maker Award, it is my pleasure to nominate Brandon Preister, who is a seventh grader for us at Humphrey Public. Brandon is a great kid who takes pride in talking with others, even though Brandon has significant speech impairments. Brandon works very hard to improve his ability to speak well each day and loves to sit and visit with another student or adult, regardless of their looks, race or socioeconomic status. Brandon always has a smile on his face when you say Hi to him and truly loves coming to school. He is a great role model for any student, but especially for any student who has a disability. Brandon wants to be part of a group, but also wants to ensure that no one is left out, so he will begin another group, even if that group is two people, him and the other student. Brandon’s grades are not going to be off the charts, but he works very hard for what he gets. His greatest gift is his ability to make sure others feel important by communicating with them, the best he can.
