PORT ALBERNI, B.C. — For the second time in a month, B.C. Mounties may have thwarted a violent attack on a school in the United States.
A 17-year-old youth from Brewster, Wash., is in jail and facing charges of conspiracy to commit assault in the first degree, thanks to a tip from the parents of a 14-year-old girl from Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. Eighth grader James Brockhaus is a quiet difference maker at Humphrey St. Francis schools. He is always respectful to his teachers and peers. James can be “caught” complimenting other students, volunteering to help, or simply taking the initiative to assist others. Brandon works very hard to improve his ability to speak well each day and loves to sit and visit with another student or adult, regardless of their looks, race or socioeconomic status. Brandon always has a smile on his face when you say Hi to him and truly loves coming to school. ...

It began when I was in Catholic school. I would rely on my parents and my brother to speak for me. They encouraged me to stand on my own and communicate with others, but it was difficult for me. In Catholic school, ...
