TEEN TRUTH: BODY IMAGE ACCEPTED TO THE SACRAMENTO FILM FESTIVAL

March 12th, 2010

The Sacramento Film Festival will be presenting the award-winning film TEEN
TRUTH: AN INSIDE LOOK AT BODY IMAGE during their Kick Off & Preview Day at
Sacramento State University on April 11 at 1pm.

We would like to congratulate director Erahm Christopher, producer JC Pohl
and the rest of the TEEN TRUTH Team for reaching this milestone.

TEEN TRUTH’s BODY IMAGE film presents real youths, parents, physicians,
physiologists and psychologists who discuss how society can shape one’s body
image and ultimately lead to dangerous habits. Teasing and exclusion led
Emily to develop an eating disorder and Kayla to binge eat her way to
obesity, while Nolan’s desire to be bigger and stronger ended in health
hazards due to performance enhancing drug use. This affecting film
challenges viewers to think differently about how they see themselves and
others, and empowers them to find true beauty from within.

If you are in the area and would like to attend, the screening will take
place in the Hinde Auditorium on the campus of SSU.

We hope you can experience this event and we are proud of all the students,
educators and crew members that worked so hard to create this thought
provoking film on BODY IMAGE & SELF ESTEEM.

A portion of the proceeds of this program will benefit each of the four non-profit organizations who helped fund it.  They are: The Kristen Watt Foundation, Hopewell, The Taylor Hooton Foundation, and The Efrain Anthony Marrero Foundation

I’d like to let you know about a newly published self-esteem based curriculum –

Inside/Outside Self-Discovery for Teens: Strategies to Promote Resilience, Relationships, & Positive Body Image.

    See: http://janeshure.com/order.php

Description of Self-esteem & Resiliency Based Curriculum
This dynamic curriculum was designed to help these youth develop skills to navigate the challenging terrain of early adolescence by teaching about self-awareness, what feelings are and how to work with them, strategies for constructive self-talk, methods for managing stress and tension, the forces that drive social comparison and cause insecurities, and media literacy (especially those messages pertaining to body-image and dissatisfaction with oneself).

The Inside/Outside Self-Discovery Program promotes emotional health and resilience by helping young teens to:
    • increase internal resources that fortify healthy development
    • build skills for managing the ups and downs of peer relationships
    • foster the ability to resist cultural pressures to be perfect
    • develop supportive inner talk to counter self-criticism

Evaluative research suggests that participation in this program enhances the coping skills needed for resilience and self-acceptance.
