- Santa Fe Springs Christian
- Santa Fe Springs, CA
Christian was selected by the Junior High School faculty and administration. The award was presented in an all-school assembly and he received a standing ovation from students, parents, and staff.
Our Difference Maker, Christian Barrios, has impacted our school and community for eight years. He is a 7th grader who, although not the visible leader or the obvious choice as the most popular junior high student, quietly goes about making our school a safe, nurturing place to be.
Our Difference Maker accepts each person he meets for who he or she is, not who he would like them to be. This starts with his peers. He notices people and makes them feel significant. He is kind, thoughtful, giving, caring, and compassionate to all. He has befriended new students, encouraged sick students, and has been there for students in need. He reaches out to younger students (even to our kindergarteners), and to teachers and staff as well.
Having grown up under difficult circumstances, Christian understands the importance of standing up for what is right and true. He lets those around him know where he stands and why. He is not afraid to stand alone if necessary, and he is always willing to stand alongside someone who needs a friend.
He has given back to our local community by actively participating in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Red Ribbon Week activities, and volunteering to assist wherever needed.
Christian and his two sisters have been raised by his grandmother. He is the “Man of the House” and makes a huge difference at home, both as a help to his grandmother and as a role model for his younger sister.
Christian is a young man who understands that one person can and does make a difference, and who demonstrates that truth in his daily walk. We are pleased to award Mr. Christian Barrios as our Santa Fe Springs Christian School Difference Maker.
