TEEN TRUTH: INSIGHT – THE ULTIMATE DIFFERENCE MAKERS

During the 2009-2010 school year TEEN TRUTH delivered over 400 presentations across the US and Canada, reaching close to 300,000 youth. At each school we sought an exemplary student who takes action to be the difference in his or her community and encouraged them to apply for our $500 ULTIMATE DIFFERENCE MAKER scholarships.
We are pleased to announce that Amanda Hariri of Will C. Wood High School in Vacaville, CA and Donte Winrow of Johnson Middle School in Westminster, CA are our 2009-2010 ULTIMATE DIFFERENCE MAKERS!
AMANDA HARIRI, a Link Leader, the secretary of the Best Buddies program, and a phenomenal student, is the essence of what we want TEEN TRUTH TRIBE members to be – connected and proactive. She takes action, treats others with compassion, and works to make the classroom welcoming to all students. From spearheading the drive to bake 250 pumpkin pies for holiday baskets, to encouraging others to treat special needs students with respect, Amanda leads by example. She has a vision for a united school, supportive community, and a world where everyone is treated equally. In addition to her $500 scholarship, Amanda will have the opportunity to attend TEEN TRUTH partner Rapport Empowered Education’s Leadership Breakthrough One training. This is a $795 value that is being sponsored by Rapport Empowered Education.
DONTE WINROW, an 8th grade student with a heart of gold, has the courage to rise up and be heard even when it’s not easy. Students and staff both praised him for his willingness to stand up for those facing adversity. Once a student that hid his own disability, Donte now uses his knowledge and experience to create a powerful awareness of the challenges others with disabilities face on his campus.
We are proud to select Amanda and Donte as our Middle and High School scholarship winners and we thank all those who worked hard to make a difference at their schools across the country. We’re confident Amanda and Donte will both continue to make their mark wherever they go. Please join us in congratulating our ULTIMATE DIFFERENCE MAKERS!
